We are very proud to officially announce that Dr. Mónica Valencia has passed the final examination to become a Double Board-Certified Bariatric Surgeon by the Mexican College of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases  (CMCOEM) the only organization recognized by the Mexican Board of Medical Specialties as being able to certify doctors as specialists in the field of bariatric surgery.. My New Body Obesity Center is now home of two Double Board Certified Bariatric Surgeons performing Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, Mini Gastric Bypass, Duodenal Switch, SADI-S and the most complex revision surgeries for men and women from all over the world. Board certification is a rigorous process requiring six to eight years of residency, an optional year of fellowship, a year of case collection in private practice, and comprehensive oral and written examinations.Achieving board certification in bariatric surgery has been a long, challenging, but very rewarding journey, in additional to my previous certification as a General Surgeon” Dr. Valencia said. “I  look forward to continuing my career as a board-certified bariatric surgeon with the great team of doctors and staff at My New Body Obesity Center.”

Dr. Valencia joined My New Body Obesity Center as a highly qualified and experienced general surgeon. She graduated from medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Sonora, followed by a residency in general surgery at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, in Cd. Obregón Sonora, one of the most advanced and prestigious surgical centers in Mexico.

Dr. Valencia was also an exchange medical student in the Medical Cultural Exchange Program at the College of Medicine at Arizona University .
